Steps to Applying for the CPA Exam:
1. Apply for the CPA Exam online. Depending on your location, this is done through either your State Board of Accountancy or NASBA CPA Examination Services . Choose your jurisdiction and pay the associated fees.
2. Submit your University transcripts. Once approved to take the Exam, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT), indicating you are eligible to schedule your exams. Your ATT is only valid for 90 days, so don’t forget to register!
3. Register for your desired exam through NASBA and pay the fees.
4. Once you pay the exam fees, NASBA will provide you with a Notice to Schedule (NTS) – the paper that allows you to schedule your exam date.
5. Study Hard & Take Your Exams
State Requirements
The qualifying requirements to take the CPA Exam vary by state and jurisdiction, make sure to check your jurisdiction’s specific requirements.
International Requirements
In conjunction with the AICPA and Prometric, NASBA now allows internatinal candidates the opportunity to take the Uniform CPA Examination in Japan, Brazil, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates.
The Exam application process is basically the same for U.S. and international candidates. In order to qualify to take the Exam outside the U.S., you will have to establish your eligibility through a jurisdiction participating in the international administration of the Exam.
